King & Spalding Recruits Angela Hayes to Launch London Financial Services Regulatory Practice

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2013) - King & Spalding has established a London financial services regulatory practice with the addition of partner Angela Hayes as the firm continues to expand its global financial institutions offering. Hayes joins King & Spalding from Mayer Brown, where she was a partner.

Hayes' expertise encompasses both advisory mandates and defence regulatory investigations and proceedings. Her advisory experience covers start up of new financial services businesses and new product development, through ongoing conduct of business and governance systems and controls to ensure regulatory compliance and to minimise the risks of market abuse, money laundering and fraud. Hayes' extensive contentious regulatory experience includes investigations and proceedings by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (formerly the Financial Services Authority) and cross-border investigations by European and U.S. financial regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Her white-collar crime work has included response to Serious Fraud Office and Department of Justice processes. Recent work also has included Bribery Act 2010 "adequate procedures" and internal investigations into potential bribery incidents. She represents investment, private and retail banks, fund managers, brokers, life and general insurers, listed companies and individual directors.

Earlier in her career, Hayes spent time in-house at the Financial Services Authority advising on key aspects on implementation of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. She is ranked in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 in financial services.

"Angela is a strong addition to our financial institutions practice. She expands our roster of finance partners who provide highly sophisticated work for our clients," said Richard T. Marooney, co-leader of King & Spalding's financial institutions practice. "Financial services regulatory law is a highly complex area of the law -- made even more so with the enactment of the Financial Services Act 2012 and creation of the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority -- and we are fortunate to have Angela join us."

Hayes becomes the seventh partner to join King & Spalding's London office since the start of 2012. She brings the total number of partners in the London office to 16.

John Keffer, co-managing partner of King & Spalding's London office, commented: "With the addition of Angela and a financial services regulatory capability, we offer a full complement of London-based corporate services to our financial institutions clients. Angela's reputation and quality highlight our commitment to the UK legal market, and we are very excited to welcome her as part of our City corporate team."
