King & Spalding Strengthens Global Competition/Antitrust Practice With Addition of Suzanne Rab, a Cartel, Market Investigations and Merger Control Expert, in London

LONDON--(Marketwire - May 9, 2011) - Suzanne Rab, a competition lawyer who worked on some of the highest-profile cartel, market and merger control investigations in Europe and the UK, has joined King & Spalding as a partner in its London office, the firm announced today. She is expected to play a pivotal role in the build out of King & Spalding's global competition practice in the UK and Europe, complementing its strong base in the United States. Rab joins King & Spalding from Hogan Lovells, where she was co-leader of its antitrust compliance group.

"Suzanne's significant background in European and UK competition law nicely complements our U.S. antitrust capabilities," said Kevin R. Sullivan, leader of King & Spalding's global cartel investigation practice. "Our strength in cartel work -- which includes both criminal and civil matters involving alleged price-fixing and market allocation by U.S. and non-U.S. companies -- combined with Suzanne's varied cartel experience, including hands-on 'dawn raids,' enables us to provide our clients in Europe or the United States with comprehensive counsel on their high-stakes competition/antitrust matters."

Rab advises clients across all areas of European and UK competition and sector regulatory law, with a particular focus on transactional and behavioral matters, including in proceedings before UK competition authorities, UK sector regulators and the European Commission. She has varied experience in cartel and market investigations and merger control before the European Commission and UK competition authorities, contentious work, compliance and State aids. Rab received a Bachelor of Civil Law degree and an M.A. degree from the University of Oxford. She is a visiting fellow of Imperial College Business School, specializing in intellectual property law. Rab is a former director of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked with the firm's London-based economics and forensics teams.

"Suzanne's arrival is an exciting event for the global competition practice," said Jeffrey S. Spigel, leader of King & Spalding's antitrust practice. "It marks our commitment to expanding the practice to better serve clients throughout Europe -- and the world. We look forward to the contributions Suzanne will make as we continue expanding this practice."

"We are pleased to welcome Suzanne to our firm," said John L. Keffer, co-managing partner of the London office of King & Spalding. "Her addition strengthens our capabilities to continue providing our clients with best-in-class legal advice. Suzanne's expertise in competition cases in the regulated sectors, including energy and life sciences, is particularly complementary with our industry capabilities."

Rab said: "I am very pleased to have joined King & Spalding. Having worked with some of the firm's lawyers in the past, I have great respect for the high level of talent in the London office and throughout the firm. I am excited about the opportunity to build and develop the UK and EU competition capability as part of a dynamic and forward-looking business. It's the kind of opportunity that doesn't come along very often. I look forward to working with my colleagues to help expand the firm's premier global competition practice."

King & Spalding's global competition/antitrust practice, recognized by Chambers Global 2011, prides itself on developing individualized, solution-oriented advice on all aspects of antitrust law, including complex civil litigation and criminal proceedings, government investigations, merger analysis and agency approval and business counseling. The firm regularly represents clients in complicated antitrust matters before the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the European Commission, state attorneys general and other key competition authorities around the world, drawing on extensive enforcement authority experience and private practice expertise to guide clients safely and successfully through all phases of civil and criminal enforcement actions and merger investigations.
