Kingspan Insulated Panels North America Spotlights First-of-Its-Kind Environmental Product Declaration at Greenbuild 2011

Announces Updates to Path to NetZero

DELAND, FL--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2011) - Kingspan Insulated Panels North America, a global manufacturer of insulated metal panels, will spotlight its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) as a centerpiece to the company's main sustainability initiative -- Path to NetZero -- at booth #417N (North Building) during Greenbuild 2011, Oct. 4-7, at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto, Canada.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the EPD recently awarded to the company's wall and roof systems. Kingspan's EPD is a first-of-its-kind achieved by a North American-based manufacturer of insulated metal panels. EPD is a standardized, internationally recognized tool for providing information on a product's environmental impact. Information in the declaration is based on an ISO-compliant life cycle assessment (LCA) and verified by a third party, in the case of Kingspan, Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

The booth will also introduce visitors to Kingspan's updated Path to NetZero microsite and the next generation of the mobile app. This unique tool for the building industry simulates the process of achieving high-performance and net-zero buildings. The revised app includes the addition of two Canadian cities -- Calgary and Toronto -- giving users a choice of six cities. In addition to a city, users select a building type (school, office, or warehouse) and a baseline building designed to ASHRAE 90.1.2004. They then choose a Kingspan insulated roof and wall system and compare savings. Benchmarks for the tool are aligned with the Department of Energy Commercial Building Initiative and U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) 2009/3.0 requirements.

Also on display will be the winning entry in the company's Legacies are Built design competition. Open to architects and architectural students, the competition challenged participants to design and construct legacy-worthy structures, using paper and scissors. The entrants then submitted them in one of four categories: commercial, institutional, industrial, and retail and corporate (low-rise). The first-place prize is a $5,000 scholarship presented in the winner's name to an educational institution or architectural student he or she selects. In the event a student wins, the scholarship will go directly to the winning student. The first-place prize also includes an Apple® MacBook® Pro, and the winning entry will be published in the November issue of Architect magazine. Second- and third-place winners will each receive an Apple
iPad® 2.
