Kingston Man Pleads Guilty to Permitting Distress to His Horse Under Ontario SPCA Act

KINGSTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 27, 2013) - On May 27, 2013, Rennie Green, of Kingston, Ontario, pleaded guilty to one count of permitting distress to an animal.

On August 2, 2012, after having been called to Green's property for a concern for the welfare of an animal, an Ontario SPCA Officer removed an emaciated horse, by veterinarian recommendations (Certificate of a Veterinarian).

The horse was taken to a foster farm where she received around the clock care and daily veterinarian assistance. Sadly, the horse was humane euthanized due to the condition she was found in.

Green pleaded guilty to one count of permitting an animal to be in distress.

Green was sentenced to one year probation. He may not commit the same offence and must notify the Ontario SPCA of any change of address. Green also received one year prohibition from owning and possessing horses. He was ordered to clean up the area on his property that housed the horses. The Ontario SPCA has been given permission to inspect the property without notice to ensure Rennie Green is complying with orders.

Green must pay a total restitution of $2,597.58.
