Kingston Woman Convicted of Permitting Distress Under Ontario SPCA Act

KINGSTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 12, 2013) - On July 12, 2013, Nancy Whyte of Kingston, Ontario, was convicted of one count of permitting distress under the Ontario SPCA Act.

On February 16, 2012, Ms. Whyte brought her cat to the Kingston humane society. After an examination by a veterinarian, an open tumor that measured 2x4x1 inches was found on the animal the tumor had been there for several months.

The cat could not be saved and was humanely euthanized.

Ms. Whyte received a three year prohibition from living with, caring for, or owning an animal. The Ontario SPCA was given inspection rights during daylight hours when Ms. Whyte is home. Ms. Whyte was ordered to pay a fine of $750.

"If providing for an animal under your care becomes difficult, we encourage you to contact your local Ontario SPCA or Humane Society where we can find a solution together," said Larry Wilkinson, Senior Inspector.
