Knovel Adds Four Publishing Partners in Q1

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 2, 2011) - Knovel, the leading provider of a Web-based application integrating technical information with analytical and search tools, has expanded its partner ecosystem with the addition of four publishers in the first quarter of 2011. Knovel partners with more than 75 societies and publishers worldwide to ensure engineers have access to trusted sources of technical content across 25 engineering subject areas. Last year, Knovel added 10 partners and expanded its content offering nearly 20 percent.

Recently added partners include:

  • United States Pharmacopeia (USP) - a non-governmental, public standards-setting authority for prescription and over-the-counter medicines and other healthcare products manufactured or sold in the United States. Knovel has licensed the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) which will be added to the Food Science subject area. The FCC is a compendium of internationally recognized monograph standards and tests for the purity and quality of food ingredients.

  • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) - an international economic organization founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade. Knovel has licensed "OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals" and "Good Laboratory Practice -- OECD Principles and Guidance for Compliance Monitoring" which is used to identify and characterize potential hazards of new and existing chemical substances, chemical preparations and chemical mixtures. These titles will expand Knovel's Chemistry and Chemical Engineering subject area.

  • International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) - established in 2001 to act as a catalyst for performance improvement in the mining and metals industry. Knovel has licensed seven titles from ICMM covering human rights, working with indigenous peoples and biodiversity. The titles will be part of a new subject area, Mining Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy, to be launched in May 2011.

  • The Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) - an international society of professionals in the minerals industry with more than 12,000 members in nearly 100 countries. Knovel has exclusively licensed 36 titles from SME which will be part of a new subject area, Mining Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy, to be launched in May 2011.

"Knovel continues to build and expand partnerships that strengthen our content in a way that is impactful to the engineering workflow," says Delores Meglio, vice president, publisher relations for Knovel. "This curation process involves more than adding the latest titles. We also bring together hard to find data, improve discoverability of actionable answers in the database, identify new sources of information and retire out-of-date content."
