Knoxville Bariatric Surgeons Discuss Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

Doctors With New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery Talk About the Benefits of Revisional Bariatric Surgery to Help Patients Achieve Their Initial Goals

KNOXVILLE, TN--(Marketwired - Oct 3, 2013) - Dr. Stephen G. Boyce and Dr. K. Robert Williams, each an experienced Knoxville bariatric surgeon, see many patients who seek to repair complications from prior weight loss surgeries performed by other surgeons. At New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery, the doctors' private practice, they have noticed that along with a national increase in the number of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, there has also been a rise in patients who are unhappy with their initial results. These patients sometimes pursue the help of Dr. Boyce and Dr. Williams to help them achieve the goals they had initially set with other surgeons for their first operation.

Dr. Boyce says that, currently, revision surgery constitutes about 25% of procedures performed at the practice. Due to his extensive experience in this specialized aspect of the field, these procedures have become some of the most common at New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Boyce also serves on faculty with Ethicon Endo Surgery for revision surgery, which trains surgeons across the country on appropriate revision selection and technique.

According to Dr. Boyce and Dr. Williams, most patients seek revisional bariatric surgery because, following their initial surgery, they experience weight gain or fail to lose adequate weight following the procedure. For these reasons, Dr. Boyce recommends that patients choose an experienced and qualified bariatric surgeon for their surgery the first time around to reduce the chance of complication or failure. At New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Boyce and Dr. Williams say they are happy to evaluate a patient's individual situation and recommend appropriate treatment. They want patients to know that they do not have to live with bariatric results that did not meet their intended goals. Many of Dr. Boyce's and Dr. Williams' bariatric surgery patients that have had their first surgeries performed elsewhere have benefited from New Life's comprehensive After Care Program and Adjustable Gastric Band Evaluation Clinics.

Overall, Dr. Boyce and Dr. Williams say that, with revisional bariatric surgery, patients can often still achieve the initial goals set with the first surgery and attain better physical health, a trimmed down physique, and a positive new lifestyle change.
