Kodak Alaris Wins BLI Awards With Workgroup Scanners That Accelerate Customer Transactions and Reduce IT Costs

ROCHESTER, NY--(Marketwired - March 05, 2015) - Bank tellers, medical receptionists, DMV agents and other customer-facing staff need to quickly and accurately capture documents and customer information to complete transactions. In these fast-paced environments, it's critical to keep paperwork from getting lost or misfiled, and equally important for the scanning and handling of documents not to divert attention from customers.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, IT departments are on a parallel mission to increase productivity and reduce costs. As businesses move to web-based technologies, many are embracing "zero-footprint" document scanning -- where imaging software is built into the scanner instead of installed on the users' PCs -- as a way to minimize PC requirements by letting the scanner do most of the work.

The KODAK SCANMATE i1150 and i1180 Scanners from Kodak Alaris address all of these needs and more. As a result, the scanners were recently announced as winners of the Winter 2015 Pick Awards from Buyers Laboratory LLC (BLI). The SCANMATE i1150 Scanner (http://www.kodakalaris.com/go/scanmatei1150News) was named Outstanding A4 Mid-Size Workgroup Scanner and the SCANMATE i1180 (www.kodakalaris.com/go/scanmatei1180News) was named Outstanding A4 Large Workgroup Scanner.

"The KODAK SCANMATE i1150 and i1180 Scanners include a lot of functionality at an affordable price," said Lisa Reider, BLI's Senior Product Editor for scanners. "In addition to their robust media handling, excellent selection of image processing features and easy to use design, they both offer a lower than average total cost of ownership for similarly equipped models."

To help users focus more on customers and less on capturing paperwork, the scanners are fast, compact and quiet with an easy-to-use interface and virtually jam-free operation. The i1150 is ideal for scanning mixed originals including letter-sized documents and ID cards at a service window or agent's desk. Because a majority of transactions involve scanning 10 or fewer documents, the i1150 Scanner features a special Transaction Mode, enabling 60 percent faster capture for the first 10 pages.

"Great customer service is the biggest differentiator for any business, so document capture where transactions are taking place can't create a bottleneck," explained Tony Barbeau, Products & Solutions General Manager and Vice President, Document Imaging division, Kodak Alaris. "The i1150 and i1180 Scanners deliver a combination of productivity and reliability that allows users to stay focused on what's most important -- their customers."

Users also are applauding the award-winning capture devices from Kodak Alaris. "The i1150 Scanner has been great for us because it reliably does everything we want at a great price point," said Edward A. Hughes, Assistant Welfare Management System Coordinator, Onondaga County Department of Social Services. The government agency, based in upstate New York, has moved from storing warehouses full of paper records to digitizing all of its files. For Onondaga County, scanning has led to efficiency gains not only in terms of the cost of storage, but also the speed of file retrieval.

The i1180 Scanner is ideal for businesses needing to capture and extract higher volumes of information quickly. It integrates seamlessly into any network environment and reduces demands on host PCs, which minimizes IT support costs.

BLI cited a number of features that earned Kodak Alaris the awards:

  • Ability to handle a wider than average range of paper weights
  • Allows users to adjust the multi-feed detection function to suit specific scanning needs
  • Built-in Perfect Page technology for features such as auto sharpen, RGB adjustments, custom area selection, foreground boldness, streak filter, hole fill and more
  • Bundled Smart Touch utility to customize up to nine scan profiles for frequently used operations

BLI is the world's leading independent tester of document imaging products. Announced twice per year, the Pick awards acknowledge the products that gave the best performances in BLI's extensive suite of laboratory tests in the previous six months.
