Konecranes TRUCONNECT® Tells Companies What Their Cranes Are Really Doing

SPRINGFIELD, OH--(Marketwired - March 31, 2016) - Knowledge is power. With Konecranes TRUCONNECT, companies get the information they need to optimize crane maintenance and improve operator work habits.

Konecranes extends its lifting equipment service presence in the digital-industrial data landscape with the expanded TRUCONNECT® Remote Service suite and improved functionality and availability of the customer portal.

Konecranes Service is built on the foundation of Lifecycle Care, a comprehensive and systematic approach to maintenance, supported by world-class tools and processes like TRUCONNECT. Konecranes delivers Lifecycle Care in real time, using the Industrial Internet to connect data, machines and people. Crane usage and maintenance data are combined with Konecranes knowledge and experience, providing insights that allow customers to optimize their maintenance operations and activities.

TRUCONNECT Remote monitoring uses sensors to gather usage data-running time, motor starts, work cycles and brake condition. This information can be conveyed to the customer in Alerts. Alerts are notifications, by text or email, of events such as hoist overloads, emergency stops and over-temperatures.

When a problem is detected, TRUCONNECT Remote Support provides 24/7 access to a global network of crane experts and specialists, offering problem-solving and troubleshooting to help reduce unplanned downtime.

"One of the most important benefits of TRUCONNECT is knowing if a crane is being used in an unsafe manner by the operator," says Jim Skowron, Konecranes regional VP sales, service. "Studies indicate that 59 percent of crane incidents are due to operator error. This technology allows companies to understand operating habits better. If you are able to learn through an alert that someone is operating a crane outside safety parameters, you can handle the issue in the moment, before incurring harm to people or damage to products."

TRUCONNECT can also help keep customers aware of the condition of key crane components, such as hoist brakes. It gives customers insights they can use to develop operator training programs, conserve the lifetime of components and confidently optimize spending on usage-based maintenance.

Customers with service agreements have access to, the Konecranes customer portal. Usage data, maintenance data and asset details are all linked here, giving a comprehensive view of events and activities over any selected time period. This information can be viewed, analyzed and shared quickly, helping users make fact-based decisions.

"If your company is in a position to buy a new crane, why not have this kind of technology on it?" Skowron queried. "Our goal is simple -- to give managers the information they need to improve safety and their bottom line."
