RAMSEY, NJ--(Marketwired - March 11, 2014) - Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), is announcing the launch of the 2014 Books2BETTER program to promote literacy among young readers across the United States. With this initiative, Konica Minolta aims to transform lives, enable communities and inspire ideas for the next generation by donating 2,000 books to young readers from low-income families during the months of March and April.
"Research indicates that early literacy is critical to a child's success in school and life," says Ellen Lutvak, manager, Business Volunteer Connect from the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. "Low-income families often do not have the resources to provide a home rich in reading material. Konica Minolta and its employees understand the importance of ensuring that young children have access to books -- their support of early childhood literacy programs makes a huge impact in the community."
The initiative runs through Friday, April 11, 2014.
Other Initiatives in 2014
Konica Minolta will continue to give back to the community during 2014 with their annual Food for Thought and Back to School programs. Both initiatives are geared towards improving the lives of children from low-income families.
Food for Thought
is a nationwide initiative that aims to alleviate childhood hunger during the summer vacation season when food pantries often experience severe shortages of nutritious, child-friendly foods. This will be the third year Konica Minolta has conducted this program. Over the past two years the company has donated many nutritious children's meals to food pantries across the United States. This year Konica Minolta's goal is to donate 3,000 meals.
The Back to School Program is a nationwide school supply drive to benefit the millions of children across the country who cannot afford to purchase the tools necessary to succeed in school. Over the past two years Konica Minolta has donated thousands of school supplies to children in need nationwide. This year Konica Minolta's goal is to donate 5,000 items.
"At Konica Minolta, corporate citizenship is an important part of our management philosophy," says Kay Du Fernandez, vice president, Strategic Business Development for Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "Our aim is to positively touch society and support the communities that we serve. The foundation for developing our nation's future leaders is dependent on our actions today."
