Konover Construction and JSA Architects Awarded Design/Build Contract at the University of Virginia

Design/Build Team's Educational Expertise Helped Bolster Their Selection on This $14.35 Million New Residence Hall

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 12, 2007 --Konover Construction Corporation, one of the region's premier construction managers in the construction of higher education projects, and JSA Architects of Silver Spring, MD were recently awarded a $14.35 million design/build contract for the University of Virginia's new 54,000-sq.-ft. residence hall.

Construction of the five-story project known as "Observatory Hill Residence Hall" is scheduled to begin this Wednesday, March 14, with a completion date set for June 2008. This residence hall will provide the university with 192 new student beds and an additional 9 beds for resident assistants and staff.

In concert with the campus' original design by Thomas Jefferson, this project will mirror his philosophy of an "academical village," where shared learning is a part of daily life. Jefferson's academic structures, with red brick walls articulated with white classical columns and detailing, have been echoed throughout the campus' new building designs through the years. This new residence hall is being designed to reflect similar features and complement the existing structures.

This is the first project at U.Va. by the design/build team. "We're thrilled to have the opportunity to demonstrate our combined expertise for the university on this project and look forward to a long and successful relationship on future work," said Konover's Senior Vice President, Simon Etzel. "We strongly believe satisfied clients are a true measure of one's ability and success, and pride ourselves on an 85% repeat client base -- we look forward to that type of success here at U.Va."

Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas Architecture of Norfolk, Virginia provided bridging documents to the university for the project.

The University of Virginia offers students over 400 academic programs, and has recently been named as the Number 2 best public university by U.S. World News Report. With a diverse student body of over 20,000, the school is driven by the academic dream initially envisioned by Jefferson -- developing leaders who are well-prepared to shape the future of the nation.
