Kotura Selected for DARPA PhASER Program

MONTEREY PARK, CA--(Marketwire - June 16, 2009) - Kotura, Inc., a leading provider of Silicon Photonic products, today announced that it has been selected by Telcordia as a partner in DARPA's Photonic Analog Signal Processing Engine with Reconfigurability (PhASER) program. The goal of the PhASER program is to use photonics to resolve some of the limits with conventional digital signal processing technology.

"At Telcordia, we had the RF algorithms and the PhASER design concepts, but not the technology platform to implement an integrated solution. Kotura had silicon photonics, the design team and the internal fab to implement our designs. Together we have been able to make real progress on this program and we are very excited about where we can go from here," remarked Dr. Ted K.Woodward, a Chief Scientist in the Applied Research Division of Telcordia Technologies, Inc.

"It's quite a challenging program," added Mehdi Asghari, CTO of Kotura. "If we can design programmable filters in silicon photonics, we can expand the field of use for our technology into a broad range of new applications. The ability to sample the information content within a narrow spectrum of a broadband RF signal is very important and one that currently can only be done with very expensive and complex electrical RF solutions."
