KPN Chooses BroadSoft for Advanced VoIP Services for SME Market

'Software as a Service' Model to Reduce Cost of Telephony Investment for Small and Medium Businesses

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 20, 2007 -- SPRING 2007 VON -- BroadSoft, Inc., a leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced that KPN has chosen BroadSoft's BroadWorks® VoIP platform in order to offer complete, fully hosted communications services for the small and medium enterprise (SME) market. The services will initially be offered on a trial basis this spring, with a full rollout later in the year.

The service removes the need for a costly PBX and offers enterprises of all sizes a single communications service that can operate over multiple sites using standard IP handsets and softphones, as well as integrating with PC applications for complete "click-to-dial" and "follow-me" functionality. The BroadWorks platform being deployed by KPN can deliver VoIP applications across both fixed and mobile networks, providing both the operator and its SME customers with maximum flexibility to deploy further value-added services in the future.

KPN has adopted the BroadWorks "software as a service" model for its VoIP application. The service is hosted in its fixed network enabling KPN to offer an integrated communications solution to SMEs. As a hosted VoIP service, end-user customers can both avoid the expense of buying and managing a PBX and take advantage of advanced features and services under a "try before you buy" arrangement.

"With the BroadSoft applications software, KPN has the possibility to develop VoIP services for the SME market to establish and develop KPN's position. We can offer our customers services now, which can be developed independent of the location and independent of a PABX, and -- because of the chosen IMS architecture -- can also be integrated for fixed and mobile," said Louis Rustenhoven, vice president of Voice for KPN. "We are pleased to have started down this road with BroadSoft to introduce a range of new services that will make major changes to how all businesses can communicate."

The new service will include all the standard features of an on-site PBX, as well as additional BroadWorks functions such as presence, video calling, voice VPN, instant messaging, unified messaging and integration with desktop applications. A self-service web portal allows individual users to amend the services and manage their personal communications experience across their office IP handset, softphone or even a home phone.

"VoIP opens up a new channel through which KPN can really deliver extra value and services to its customers," said Michael Tessler, BroadSoft's president and CEO. "It's true that hosted IP services facilitate improved communications at lower costs -- but KPN's hosted voice can also change the way SMEs conduct business."

Following the successful conclusion of KPN's trials, the service will be offered in KPN's service markets. KPN has the option to extend the same features to mobile devices, enabling a single communications experience across both the fixed and mobile network.
