Kraken Delivers High Resolution Sonar for Offshore Oil & Gas Survey

Brone Survey has Taken Delivery of a Kraken SAS Sonar System for Deepwater Surveys; System Will be Integrated Into a Deepwater Remotely Operated Towed Vehicle

ST. JOHN'S, NL--(Marketwired - April 14, 2015) - Kraken Sonar Inc. (TSX VENTURE: PNG) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Kraken Sonar Systems Inc. has delivered an AquaPix® Miniature Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonar (MINSAS) system to Brone Positioning & Survey.

Brone Positioning & Survey is part of The Brone Energy Group primarily focused on West African markets with interests in offshore and deepwater positioning, geophysical and geotechnical surveys. Kraken's MINSAS system is being integrated into a new Remotely Operated Towed Vehicle (ROTV) rated for work in 3,000 metre water depths. Aptly called the DeepSAS 3000, the system is flexible in that the sonar can be removed and installed on an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle that Brone Survey is planning to acquire in the near future.

Brone Group CEO, Bunmi Akomolede said, "Synthetic Aperture Sonar is a major technological breakthrough for seabed mapping. Kraken's sonar technology is different from anything I have ever seen in the industry. Having keenly followed industry developments and technological advances over the past 23 years, I can sincerely say that the seafloor resolution achievable with the Kraken system is unprecedented and redefines 3D mapping and bathymetry."

Mr. Akomolede further stated, "Traditionally, interferometric bathymetry data has not been as crisp and sharp as that produced by multibeam sonar. Until now, multibeam imagery has been the industry standard. However, Kraken's SAS technology offers significantly better imagery and bathymetry resolution than any conventional survey sonar technology, including multibeam. For deepwater projects this is a very critical factor. With performance like this, Kraken has redefined the standards for deepwater bathymetry and seabed imaging not only in the West African sub-region, but all over the world."

Karl Kenny, Kraken's President and CEO said, "The characterization of deepwater environments prior to exploration and during production is very important, particularly as there is often very little existing information in these remote areas. All of the major offshore energy companies conduct environmental surveys in deepwater areas to better understand these ecosystems. With technologies such as Kraken's Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonars, companies can conduct more cost-effective and efficient monitoring of specific deepwater environments so they can better manage the potential impacts from their operations. This helps them to plan installation activities, lay pipelines and operate their offshore assets."

Brone's DeepSAS 3000 ROTV has been designed to carry a payload of Kraken's AQUAPIX MINSAS sonar, as well as a sub-bottom profiler, gap-filler multibeam bathymetry and obstacle avoidance devices. The system also has options for constant vehicle height off-the-seafloor as well as depressor weights to decouple vessel motion from the ROTV. It is expected that Brone's new ROTV will be deployed in West Africa on any one of Brone's vessels -- R/V Brone Explorer, DSV Brone Investigator or from the SV Brone Navigator. The system will be positioned in West Africa but can also be mobilized by air to any location in the world. It will be deployed around the world for seafloor mapping, high resolution imaging and seafloor characterization and evaluation of geo-hazards.
