KSF Orthopedic Specialist Dr. Michael George Shares Insight at the "Evaluation and Management of the Injured Rodeo Athlete" Program in Las Vegas

Longtime Team Physician to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Dr. George Helps Physicians, Athletic Trainers and Medical Support Personnel Understand Injuries and Conditions Affecting Rodeo Athletes

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - Jan 4, 2013) - Orthopedic and sports medicine specialist of KSF Orthopaedic Center, P.A., Dr. Michael George, shares valuable insight as a longtime team physician for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at a recent continuing education program in Las Vegas, "Evaluation and Management of the Injured Rodeo Athlete."

Sponsored by the University of Colorado School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education, the program provides attendees with the specialized knowledge to care for the most common injuries sustained by the rodeo athlete -- including acute care and late reconstruction, as well as preventive methods to limit injury among rodeo athletes.

According to Dr. George, the course provides valuable insight into common injuries and conditions affecting the rodeo athlete for physicians, athletic trainers and healthcare personnel involved in the care of rodeo athletes in their local community.

"As team physicians for area youth groups and professional athletes like those involved in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, we're committed to education -- sharing what we've learned so that these athletes receive the best care possible wherever they live," said George.

"The correct diagnosis and early treatment can often times prevent a more serious problem and result in less invasive treatment and more rapid recovery," added George.

Dr. George, who also cares for professional rodeo cowboys as a member of the Justin Sports Medicine team, served as a member of the program's faculty -- educating on the injury diagnosis and management of rodeo athletes.

The program also emphasized concussion assessment, identifying potentially serious occult injuries, delayed treatment in this patient population, preventive taping, bracing and muscle energy techniques and development of protocols for the management of life threatening injuries -- including pelvic injuries, spinal column injuries, blunt abdominal and thoracic trauma.

Dr. George remains committed to orthopedic sports medicine education -- serving also as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and a clinical instructor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas at Houston

He has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and was one of the first doctors in Houston to earn the subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.

At KSF Orthopaedic Center, he is part of a select group of orthopedic and sports medicine specialists serving the community and offering the latest treatment options at the comprehensive orthopedic and rehabilitation center.
