LA Public Library System Refreshes Technology With Telkonet's EGS Public Access Gateway

Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP) Funds Upgrade of Public-Access Internet Hardware

MILWAUKEE, WI--(Marketwire - January 10, 2011) - The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) system, one of the largest publicly funded library systems in the world, has chosen to upgrade its aging public-access Internet infrastructure with new Telkonet EGS 4.0 gateways. Using funds from the US Department of Commerce's Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP), part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the LAPL has purchased upgrades for its final 65 sites. The new hardware will provide increased security and management capabilities over LAPL's network as well as offer users more efficient Internet access.

The Los Angeles Public Library system has been a member of the EthoStream Network since 2005 and has provided access to more than 542,000 users in 2010 alone. EthoStream's network provides public Internet access solutions and support to a number of libraries and library systems in states including Arizona, Illinois and Wisconsin enhancing those services already offered by library IT staff. Providing technology and support for Internet access in Hospitality, Education and Municipal locations, Telkonet's EthoStream Network totals more than 2200 locations nationwide with more than 3 million users accessing its network monthly.

"We thank the Los Angeles Public Library systems for its selection of Telkonet's EGS hardware and its support of the EthoStream Network support services. We've been proud to exceed the high standard of service and technology that the LAPL system is known for and look forward to providing superior service and support for years to come," stated Matt Koch, Vice President of Hospitality Operations for EthoStream.

Telkonet's EthoStream Network is currently installed in over 2,200 locations across most major hospitality brands. The network provides access to more than 3 million users monthly and provides a safe, secure public Internet solution. Questions regarding the EthoStream Network and its solutions may be directed to and additional information may be found at
