Lakewood Veterinarian Uses Social Media to Connect With Pet Owners About Pet Wellness Care

LAKEWOOD, CO--(Marketwire - Apr 17, 2012) - Wadsworth Animal Hospital in Lakewood has started using Facebook to connect with their patients' families. Lakewood veterinarian Dr. Eric Eisen says that they use their new Facebook page to provide useful information about pet wellness care, puppy and kitten care, progressive pain management and other important veterinary topics that pet owners can use to keep their pets healthy and safe. Dr. Eisen also says that the Facebook page will be used to let people throughout Lakewood, Englewood, Arvada, Littleton and Denver know about special community events that benefit animal welfare. He hopes visitors will enjoy the page and follow links back to the animal hospital's blog and website for more in-depth information.

Dr. Eisen says they are eager to use social media to promote puppy and kitten care and other veterinary health issues. "Well over half of Americans use Facebook daily to connect with people and organizations they care about. Pet owners are very open to getting information about pet health online, and we saw this as another opportunity to spread the message about the importance of pet wellness care issues like pet dental care, pet vaccinations, progressive pain management, etc. We enjoy this online community we have with our patients."

According to the Lakewood veterinarian, up-to-the-minute education is the main focus of the animal hospital's Facebook page. As spring began, they posted reminders for owners about the need to get pets on heartworm and flea preventatives from their full pet pharmacy. Before Easter, the clinic posted warnings about buying live Easter bunnies, as well as ideas for fun holiday activities for pets. The veterinarians actively post about topics that will be both informative and entertaining for pet owners. They also link back to their website so that people can get more in-depth information.

Community involvement is another major purpose of Wadsworth Animal Hospital's Facebook page. Dr. Eisen says that whenever they hear about an event in the area that may benefit pets, animal welfare groups or pet owners, they post an announcement about it on their page. Occasionally, they also post about local animals in need of adoption or other types of assistance. The clinic also posts information about its own special events and discounts. Pet owners are also encouraged to post messages about events of interest to local animal lovers.

Dr. Eisen says that having fun is another reason for the new Facebook page. "We constantly post pictures of our fantastic patients on our page, sometimes even encouraging page visitors to guess the breed. It's a fun way to bring the animal-loving community together while imparting useful information that we hope will keep pets healthier longer."
