Lansomnia: Maritime E-Sports Gaming Tournament Issues Early-Bird Call for Participants

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - May 15, 2008) - Lansomnia, a Saint John-based organization hosting recreational and competitive video game tournaments, has issued an early-bird call for participants at Lansomnia 2008, the first championship video game tournament to be held at the annual Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition. The event will run from July 18-20, 2008.

Early registration (before May 26, 2008) costs only $35; pre-event registration after May 26, 2008 will cost $50. Participants must register at

For the $35 early-bird fee, competitive gamers have weekend-long access to the event, are entered into all competitive tournaments and are eligible for all door-prize draws. Recreational events and tournaments will also be hosted for casual gamers and fairgoers who want to try different games on several platforms. Tournament games include Halo 3, Counter Strike Source, Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band and more.

"The event will offer something for both competitive and casual players," says Trevor Flynn, event organizer. "It's all about giving people a chance to have fun and socialize."

The event, presented at Exhibition 08 in Miramichi with the co-operation of the Miramichi Agricultural Exposition Association and The Centre for Arts and Technology, expects to draw more than 200 competitive gamers and 1,000 casual players and fairgoers competing for the chance to win more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Lansomnia has hosted more than 20 competitive events, which typically draw competitors from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, New England and as far as Israel. But the spotlight, says Flynn, is squarely on the Maritime gamer. "There are plenty of talented competitive gamers in the Maritimes, and they deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments."

All profits from the event will be donated to the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Prizes are donated by local, national and international sponsors, including the Centre for Arts and Technology.
