Lanterra Media Statement re Glass Incidents, September 6, 2011

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 6, 2011) -

In two separate incidents on Saturday, September 3rd and Tuesday, September 6th, small pieces of tempered glass fell from the 40th and 44th floors of the South Tower of the Murano complex on Grenville Street. We have been informed by the contractor, Toro Aluminum Railings, that on both days, during the removal process, Toro workers had a panel of the tempered glass break in their hands and some small pieces fell to the ground.

No one was affected by the accident, as the protective hoarding that Lanterra has put in place at the locations where the balcony glass removal is taking place acted, as designed, to protect pedestrians in the event of such an incident. Toro is currently reviewing their removal procedure in light of the incident, and the written procedure as posted on the location is being reviewed by the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

We can report that the removal of the balcony glass continues to proceed on schedule. The removal of glass from the North Tower is now 100 percent complete. Based on the current work schedule, glass panel removal on the South Tower will be completed in the next 20 days. For the South Tower, already 15 per cent of the removal on the North Elevation is completed, with the South Elevation removal currently underway as well. Toro Aluminum is working six days per week to ensure that the tempered glass panels are removed as quickly and as safely as possible.

When the removal phase is complete, Lanterra will be providing a further update on the plans and schedule for replacement with the upgraded laminate glass panel solution that we announced earlier last month. We will continue to take all steps necessary to remove the tempered glass systems as quickly as possible, protect the public and our residents and replace the existing balcony systems with the laminate glass panel solutions in a safe and timely manner.

We thank our residents and the public for their patience and understanding throughout this necessary and important process.
