LAPOINTE IN FINAL AT US WOMEN'S MID-AMATEUR

Attention: Sports Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor RICHMOND, TEXAS--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 14, 2005) - Mary Ann Lapointe of Georgetown, Ont. will look to capture the US Women's Mid-Amateur title tomorrow after posting victories in the quarter finals and semi-finals today.

Lapointe, a four-time Canadian Amateur Champion, knocked off Robin Burke of Houston, Texas 1 up during her semi-final match late this afternoon and earlier defeated Thuhashini Selvaratnam of Sri Lanka 4 and 3.

Last year, Lapointe became the oldest Canadian women's amateur champion at the age of 44. She earned her four Canadian titles in 1993, 1996, 1999, 2004.

The 45-year-old Lapointe will meet Kerry Postillion of Burr Ridge, Illinois in the Final match beginning tomorrow at 9:00am (CST).

The championship is for women amateurs age 25 and over and concludes on Thursday. Visit www.uswmidam.org for more information and live scoring of the final match.
