Lara Reports Encouraging Results from Sampling and Trenching at Campos Verdes in Brazil

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 19, 2006) - Lara Exploration Ltd. ("Lara") (TSX VENTURE:LRA) is pleased to provide results from surface sampling at its Campos Verdes Gold Project in Brazil, where channel sampling of weathered rock exposures in the old artisanal workings has returned several high-grade gold intercepts up to 2.00 meters at 133.6 g/t gold at the Joao Neves pit. Trench sample results indicate presence of anomalous gold intercepts that are restricted to the immediate area of the old workings, however there is one significant intercept of 2 metres at 5.50 g/t gold in a trench 450 metres to the northeast on the trend coincident with the axis of the gold-in-soil anomaly. See Table 1 below for details.

The Campos Verdes Project comprises a 24,948 hectare property covering Proterozoic-aged greenstones and associated granitoids with gold mineralization hosted by shear zones within granitoid rocks. Artisanal gold mining was carried out at the Joao Neves site over a period of a few months in the mid-nineties before being closed down by the state government environmental agency. Systematic gold exploration was only initiated in the area in mid-2006 with geological mapping, soil gridding and channel sampling across the old diggings and some 708 metres of shallow trenching in the area of the old workings and at wide-spaced intervals to the northeast along the soil gold anomaly trend. Preliminary interpretation of the results suggests the presence of discrete zones of mineralization across widths of 50 metres perpendicular to the NNE strike trend. This trend is characterized by sheeted quartz veining hosted within intensely sheared and potassic altered rocks with wide areas of sericitic alteration and locally biotite-rich rocks. Detailed structural mapping will be carried out to determine the orientation of the higher grade gold zones.

Modesto Gold Target

Trenching at the Modesto gold target, located in the southwest of the project area, indicated a near surface mineralized zone of low grade with an interval of 4 metres at 0.63 g/t gold correlated with the anomalous interval obtained in close-by pit which indicated 2 metres at 1.5 g/t gold from the depth of 2 to 4 metres in the pit. No further work will be conducted on this target.

Quality Control

Michael Bennell, Vice President Exploration of Lara, a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), is a Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101 and has verified the data disclosed herein, including sampling, analytical and test data underlying the information or opinions contained in this release.

Lara employs a QA/QC protocol on all aspects of the sampling and analytical procedures. Sampling procedures for stream sediment, soil, rock grab, channel and trench sampling includes the insertion of about 15% QA-QC samples comprising blanks, field and laboratory duplicates, and industry-certified standards. Samples have been prepared and analyzed by the following accredited laboratories: ALSChemex, Acme and Lakefield-Geosol.
