LAROSE WINS SEIU MEMBER ORGANIZER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Swift Current member recognized for outstanding contribution helping unorganized workers seek union representation Attention: Lifestyle Editor, News Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 10, 2005) - Wanda Larose has been named the Member Organizer of the Year for 2004, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Canada announced yesterday.

Larose, a member of SEIU Local 336 in Swift Current, Sask., was recognized for her outstanding contribution to helping unorganized workers seek union representation with SEIU Canada.

"It is an honour to be recognized in this way," says Larose. "I am absolutely delighted."

While her contribution has been singled out, Larose says the team of member organizers she worked with this year deserves the credit for the success they have enjoyed.

The Local 336 Member Organizer team launched four drives to organize workers in 2004 and succeeded in winning representation for three units. The fourth drive is still ongoing.

"We are very proud of the contribution Wanda has made to the growth of SEIU," says Sharleen Stewart, Canadian International Vice-President for SEIU. "She is a testament to the vitality of our union and the spirit of our members."

The Member Organizer program is unique to SEIU and was developed to put members of the union in the driver's seat to organize more workers. To date, the program has trained 30 workers across Canada. Larose is one of two members who have graduated to instructing the training courses.

SEIU Canada represents over 90,000 workers from coast to coast.
