Las Cruces Dental Office Implements Cone Beam 3D Technology

LAS CRUCES, NM--(Marketwired - September 28, 2015) - Advanced Dental of Las Cruces is now the only general dental office in the city to have a digital X-ray machine capable of taking 3D images.

Cone beam computer tomography, or CBCT, emits low levels of radiation and takes three-dimensional radiographs of patients’ teeth, jawbone and oral cavity. In addition to adding CBCT technology, Advanced Dental of Las Cruces is now offering a free consultation that includes 3D images for patients interested in dental implants for single missing teeth or to secure lower dentures.

"This will definitely increase the number of patients that we are able to help who can't wear their lower dentures due pain and instability," said Dr. Harvey Reiter, who operates Advanced Dental of Las Cruces. "Also, we now have a way of permanently replacing missing teeth, enabling patients to eat a healthy diet and smile and talk with confidence."

Dr. Reiter said the new technology can be used to diagnose patients or to plan advanced procedures like dental implants. The method is known as computer-guided surgery, which means Dr. Reiter can plan the entire implant treatment on the computer and then transfer that treatment plan directly to the patient’s mouth.

With the assistance of the CBCT scan, Dr. Reiter can place dental implants down to the exact millimeter and minimize the recovery period.

"In essence, we can now with almost 100 percent accuracy place the implant on the computer to make sure everything is OK and then easily duplicate that in the mouth," Dr. Reiter said. "The surgery is faster, easier and in most cases almost pain-free. Without the CBCT scan, we had to do a lot of cutting and planning during the procedure, which is very stressful and leads to less than ideal placement and more pain."

Dr. Reiter is a premier sleep apnea dentist who completed a residency on sleep disorders at the University of California in Los Angeles. Advanced Dental of Las Cruces works with a sleep doctor to diagnose sleep apnea disorders. To treat sleep apnea, Dr. Reiter uses a special oral appliance designed to position the jawbone in a more appropriate location that opens the airway during sleep.

Advanced Dental of Las Cruces, 1423 South Don Roser Drive, offers comprehensive dental care. Dr. Reiter provides dental implant restorations; Six Month Smiles and Invisalign to correct alignment issues; sedation dentistry for fearful patients or patients who need multiple treatments in one visit; and sleep apnea treatment solutions. Dr. Reiter introduced a new technology called Altadonics Dentures that allows him to store 3-D images of dentures for every denture patient. The advantage is that patients can easily replace lost or broken dentures.

Dr. Reiter holds memberships with the American Academy of Dental Medicine, Craniofacial Pain Society, Doctors of Oral Conscious Sedation, SomnoMed Sleep Academy, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the American Sleep Apnea Association. Dr. Reiter graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and has attended hundreds of hours in continuing education and dental residencies on dental implants, sleep apnea, TMJ dysfunction, cosmetic dentistry and full-mouth reconstructions.
