Launch Announcement: Campuses Deploying More Emergency Alert Solutions

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - July 16, 2008) - Campus Safety magazine, the healthcare and education industry's leading security publication, recently announced the results of its Mass Notification Study. CS conducted the survey in early 2008 to determine what is being purchased and the policies supporting these solutions. Sixty eight percent (68%) of responding campuses plan to deploy new/upgraded emergency alert solutions in 2008 and 2009.

Some of the study's other findings include:

* Of these campuses, 57 percent will deploy text messaging systems; 39 percent will deploy loudspeakers; and 27 percent will deploy digital display signs

* The median percentage of college/university students who have signed up for their campus' emergency alert text message programs is 33; for staff, the rate is 38 percent

* Opting-in is most popular way college/university respondents enroll their users or update their information for text messaging systems (students, 82 percent; staff, 78 percent)

* E-mail (70 percent), new student orientation (61 percent), new hire orientation (56 percent) and Web site announcements (55 percent) are the most popular ways campuses entice individuals to enroll in their emergency text alert programs

The results of the survey can be found on Campus Safety's new microsite, the Mass Notification Center ( The site is designed to help campus administrators determine the emergency alert solutions that will work best for their communities. Some of the solutions covered include digital displays, strobes, call boxes, SMS messaging, loudspeakers, telephony, voice evacuation and weather radios.
