Launch of the SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) Program Allows IT Experts to Get Their "Geek Cred" in Network Management

Certification Evaluates and Certifies Professionals on Practical Knowledge and Real-World Experience Managing Today's Complex Business Networks

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - June 22, 2009) - SolarWinds (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful, simple and affordable network management products, today announced a new certification program that recognizes individual expertise in critical areas of network management, as well as expertise with SolarWinds' flagship offering, Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM).

The SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) Program is designed to acknowledge professionals who have amassed years of hands-on, working knowledge of managing network environments -- from understanding and using the various networking protocols to identifying the scope and source of fault and performance issues. With input and support from its active community, the SolarWinds team has spent the past year developing, building and refining the program. The company sought to create a unique assessment, grounded in real-world experience, which fills a gap in today's networking certification landscape.

"Unlike other vendor programs, SCP is not just about testing experience and familiarity with our product. It is one of only a few programs to recognize practical experience in the fundamentals of network management -- critical experience in today's 'always on, always available' business environment. Giving IT teams access to tools and solutions that make them better at their jobs is central to what we do, and this certification is another example of our commitment to the networking community." - Josh Stephens, vice president and Head Geek, SolarWinds.

"In the network management business, certifications are valuable for engineers who want to further prove skills and employers who want more ways to find qualified employees. SolarWinds, with its community engagement and reputation in the market, should be able to deliver a welcome networking certification program." - Michael Coté, analyst, Redmonk

SolarWinds Certified Professionals (SCP) Program

-- The SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) Program tests mastery of four key areas of network management, along with Orion NPM administration. Those key areas include network management fundamentals, network management planning, network management operations, and fault and performance troubleshooting.

-- Ideal certification candidates have several years' experience managing networks; have expertise identifying and resolving network issues and performance trends; and have experience deploying and using Orion NPM on a corporate or government network.

-- Depending on individual experience, candidates may require additional education to successfully pass the SCP exam. To support these candidates, SolarWinds is also launching a Learning Center featuring an expanding set of video tutorials, recommended reading lists, and other resources offering supplemental knowledge of the exam's content areas.

-- Additionally, the company established a forum on its 20,000+ member-strong community, thwack, which gives users access to peer-support from other individuals who are studying for, or who have already passed, the SCP exam.

-- The cost of the SCP examination varies by region. In North America, the exam fee is $150. The exam will be proctored through Prometric testing centers, worldwide. For more information about registering, please visit the SolarWinds Certified Professional page.
