Law Society Regulatory Proceedings for May 2011

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 31, 2011) - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.

Maureen Olivia Boldt of the City of North Bay
Decision: The Decision and Order dated March 1, 2011 is stayed pending the appeal being heard.
Tatiana Brik of the City of Thornhill
Decision: The Applicant is granted a Class P1 Licence with conditions.
Milton Markham Chambers (1990) of the City of Brampton
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for one month, commencing at the conclusion of his current administrative suspensions, and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met to the satisfaction of the Director of Professional Regulation.
Suzy De Jesus Dos Santos of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal Applicant's appeal of the hearing panel decision dated February 7, 2011 was dismissed. She was ordered to pay costs to the Law Society of $2,500.
William Hughes Fysh (1979) of the Town of Newmarket
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended indefinitely, commencing May 27, 2011, until a specified condition is met to the satisfaction of the Director of Professional Regulation.
Joram Gold of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The application for a Class P1 licence was dismissed
William Donald Gray (1969) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence is suspended, on an interlocutory basis, effective April 8, 2011.
Abdul Gabbar Khan (2008) of the City of Guelph
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for one month, commencing June 3, 2011, and continuing indefinitely, until a specified condition is met to the satisfaction of the Director of Professional Regulation.
Myles Frederick McLellan (1980) of the Town of Innisfil
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal from the Decision and Order of the hearing panel dated May 12, 2009 and the Order dated October 6, 2009 is dismissed.
Ravinder Pal Sawhney (1993) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The Lawyer shall be suspended for two months commencing June 1, 2011 and shall abide by specified terms.
Vincent George Sinclair of the City of London
Decision: The Paralegal Applicant shall pay costs to the Law Society of $3,765 with respect to his dismissed appeal.
Kathryn Leah Smithen of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Applicant was granted a Class L1 licence with conditions.
Gordon Ernest Watkin (1980) of the Town of Richmond Hill
Decision: The Lawyer's licence to practise law in Ontario and his membership in the Law Society are revoked, he is disbarred as a barrister and his name struck off the Roll of solicitors.
Kimberly June Wilmot (1994) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal of the Order of the hearing panel dated October 15, 2010 was dismissed. The suspension shall commence 15 days after the release of the appeal panel's Order or such other date as may be agreed upon between the Society and the Appellant.
Billy Wong (1979) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal from the Decision and Order dated December 10, 2009 was allowed with respect to 10 specified Particulars and a new hearing was ordered. Findings of misconduct relating to four Particulars were upheld and a new hearing on penalty was ordered with respect to them.
