Law Society Regulatory Proceedings for November 2011

Attention News Editors:

The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.

Moorsaleen Kaiyume Baksh (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's license was revoked effective November 23, 2011.
David Robert Conway (1990) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The appeal from the Decision and Order of the hearing panel dated May 27, 2011 was allowed. The findings of professional misconduct were set aside and the particulars of misconduct were dismissed.
Roy Francis DMello (1998) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The motion to strike the notice of appeal was allowed.
Gerald (Jerrold) Grupp, of the Town of Thornhill
Decision: The Law Society shall recover its costs in the amount of $7,000 against the Appellant.
Philip Daniel Kennedy (1970) of the Town of Richmond Hill
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for one month and continuing indefinitely thereafter until conditions are met.
Rodney Bruno Lapointe (1996) of the City of Sudbury
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for a period of two years and thereafter may only return to practice under supervision.
Robert William Martyn (1990) of the City of Nassau, Bahamas.
Decision: There was no order as to costs.
Kimberly Lynn Pollock (2009) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Paralegal was reprimanded.
Norman Silver (1971) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The stay of the hearing panel's decision was extended.
Paul William Slocombe (1978) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence to practise law was revoked.
Michael James Strong (1985) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for six weeks commencing November 14, 2011 and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met to the satisfaction of the Director of Professional Regulation.
