Law Society Regulatory Proceedings for September 2010

Attention News Editors:

The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases. 

Joyce Theresa Choi-Pik Chan (1989), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The appeal of the Decision and Order dated November 4, 2009 is dismissed.
 
Mario Giangioppo, paralegal applicant of the City of Toronto
Decision: The application for a P1 licence is refused.
 
Ryan Jesse Manilla, applied for licensing as a lawyer.
Decision: The Application for a Class L1 licence is dismissed.
 
Karim Nurdin Mohamed (1993) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence is revoked, he is disbarred as a barrister, and his name is struck off the Roll of solicitors.
 
Elsie Eugina Peters (2006), of the City of Toronto
Decision: As the Lawyer signed an undertaking, the conduct proceedings relating to the Notice of Application are converted into an invitation to attend. On the completion of the invitation to attend, the Application is dismissed.
 
Peter Paul Vincent, paralegal applicant of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The stay pending appeal ordered on June 4, 2010 is extended to the date of the release of the reasons on appeal.
 
Bill Wong (1979) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The stay pending appeal, ordered on January 19, 2010 and varied by endorsements dated February 1, February 24, March 19, April 29, May 10 and July 22, 2010, is extended to the date the appeal is completed or such other date as ordered by the Appeal Panel.
