Lawrence M. Tanenbaum, Mark R. Bruneau and the Hon. Michael J. L. Kirby Appointed Directors of NeuroScience Canada

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - March 29, 2007) - Allan R. Taylor, Interim Chair of the Board of Directors of NeuroScience Canada, is pleased to announce the recent appointments of three Directors: Lawrence M. (Larry) Tanenbaum, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kilmer Van Nostrand Co. Ltd. and Chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Inc.; Mark R. Bruneau, Senior Fellow, Monitor Company Group L.P., and Chairman, M'Pact Communications Inc.; and the Hon. Michael J. L. Kirby, former member of the Senate of Canada.

"With their impressive and varied backgrounds, Messrs. Tanenbaum, Bruneau and Kirby will greatly contribute to NeuroScience Canada's mission of advancing excellent and innovative neuroscience research in Canada," said Mr. Taylor, retired Chairman and CEO of the Royal Bank of Canada. He continued, "everyone associated with NeuroScience Canada is delighted that such prominent Canadians have joined the effort to raise awareness of the incidence and impact of brain disorders, and the need to increase funding for neuroscience research."

There are more than 1,000 diseases and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. These conditions afflict Canadians of all ages and backgrounds, and are often chronic, leading to a profound deterioration of the quality of life of the sufferer and those supporting him or her. According to World Health Organization data, brain disorders account for 38% of the burden of disease in Canada, or about $61 billion annually. But the impact on patients, their families and society is far more devastating than these figures alone convey. Research is the only hope for new and better diagnostics, treatments, and ultimately, cures.
