Lawson Recall Management Increases Response Speed and Patient Safety

Application Drives Down Recall Response Costs, Inefficiencies and Risk While Increasing Accountability and Minimizing Patient Impact

ST. PAUL, MN--(Marketwire - Feb 21, 2012) - Lawson Software, an Infor affiliate, today announced the availability of Lawson Recall Management, a supplemental supply chain solution for the healthcare provider community, that helps users to quickly and easily identify, recover and properly dispose of supplies and devices, in response to mandatory or voluntary recalls. The application simplifies the recall process by providing a centralized application to manage and view recall and safety notifications and providing an audit trail of communications and activities taken to remove recalled items from circulation. Additionally, the system notifies key personnel who have responsibility for corrective actions, including whether to destroy, return or re-train.

Additional key Lawson Recall Management capabilities:

  • Compile notices from any source, including the FDA, manufacturers, suppliers, and internal clinical staff in a single repository
  • Query purchasing and inventory history to determine and measure risk
  • Drill down to identify purchaser, source of purchases, and current inventory status/location
  • Create, assign and document individual tasks to ensure the right steps are taken to resolve a notice

BryanLGH, a non-profit medical center with two locations and 583 licensed beds in Lincoln, Neb., chose Lawson Recall Management to manage its recall practices.

"Lawson Recall Management was the best fit for our organization because we wanted an application that would allow us to focus on what is most important, our patient care, and that required a system that could manage recalls with speed and accuracy," said Dan Thorne, Safety Officer, BryanLGH Medical Center. "Lawson Recall Management takes care of the numerous steps required during a recall, allowing our staff to be more productive by focusing our response and increasing accountability. The application helps us identify our exposure to a recall by tracking notices from multiple sources, such as manufacturers and the US Food & Drug Administration. Additionally, it will provide us with detailed, accurate reports on all actions taken to respond to a notice, simplifying the audit processes and reducing the risks to our patients."

"Healthcare organizations receive hundreds or thousands of recall notices a year, straining resources and budget to manage the critical processes that ensure patient safety," said Keith Lohkamp, product director, Lawson. "Lawson Recall Management automates the coordination of the activities related to managing a recall, such as pulling items from the shelf and returning them to the manufacturer or disposing of them in a safe manner, saving time and increasing accountability. The application links notices to data and transactions within other Lawson applications, including Lawson Procurement and Financials, to give users a more complete view of how the recall affects the organization, while being flexible enough to support recalls for items ordered outside of Lawson."

Lawson Recall Management will be available for customers in late February 2012, and more information can be found at
