LCBO's Spirit of Giving Campaign Raises Funds for MADD Canada

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 29, 2011) - Starting December 1, the public can help support MADD Canada by making a donation at any of the 620 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for MADD Canada will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until December 31. As part of LCBO's annual Spirit of Giving campaign, cashiers will also invite customers to add a $2, $5 or $10 donation to their purchase until December 31.

During the month of December, LCBO's Spirit of Giving in-store prompted and donation box fundraising campaign raises funds for MADD Canada and Ontario's four sick children's hospitals: SickKids Foundation, McMaster Children's Hospital, CHEO Foundation and Children's Health Foundation.

The funds raised for MADD Canada support its School Assembly Program, which educates students about the risks of impaired driving. This dynamic presentation features a combination of fictional storylines and testimonials from real-life victims of impaired driving to show students the realities and consequences they could face for impaired driving.

"On behalf of MADD Canada, I thank the LCBO, its employees and especially its customers for the critical funds and public awareness they raise to help us bring this important, life-saving message to Ontario students," said Denise Dubyk, MADD Canada's National President.

"We are pleased to again partner with MADD Canada for the annual Spirit of Giving campaign," says LCBO President & CEO Bob Peter. "Thanks to the generosity of LCBO customers and employees, the nearly $1 million raised last December will result in more than half a million Ontario students seeing MADD Canada's Damages school assembly program. This December we hope to exceed this amount so even more Ontario students can benefit from this program and its powerful anti-drinking and driving message."

MADD Canada joins 24 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO's province-wide donation box program in 2011. In 2010, LCBO raised a total of $5.4 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $4.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.55 billion in fiscal 2010-11, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.

MADD Canada thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store during December.
