Le Journal de Quebec, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Edition: The Best of Both Worlds

SAGUENAY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 27, 2012) - Sun Media Corporation, a subsidiary of Quebecor Media, today launched the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean edition of Le Journal de Québec. For more than 45 years, Le Journal de Québec has had thousands of loyal readers in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. To better serve them, the newspaper's new edition will include exclusive content for local readers every day.

"We are proud to offer Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean residents the best of both worlds: the breadth of national content found in Le Journal de Québec, combined with local content produced specifically for them," said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor Media and Sun Media Corporation.

The Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean edition will cover local news through incisive reports and articles. At first, a minimum of seven pages will be devoted to the region, including two full pages for sports. Cultural events will also be covered. Le Journal de Québec's extensive coverage of national news and sports will also continue to be offered on a daily basis.

Readers of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean edition of Le Journal de Québec will be served by an expert team of talented, dedicated journalists who live in the region, understand local issues and are in tune with local news and events. The newspaper will draw on the work of journalists at Quebecor Media's various subsidiaries in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and will also feature opinion and analysis from popular and respected columnists.

Regular columnists will include former minister Jacques Brassard, Les Saguenéens de Chicoutimi general manager Marc Fortier, and radio host Denis Gravel. Each week, Marc Larouche and Patrick Boucher will discuss all aspects of snowmobiling, a very popular sport in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

"The Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean edition of Le Journal de Québec will be plugged into local current events and will be close to local residents," said Lyne Robitaille, Executive Vice President, Québec, Sun Media, and President and Publisher, Le Journal de Montréal. "Our new edition will keep readers up to date on what is happening in their community, on the things they care about and the things that have a concrete impact on their lives."

"As a media company with a well-established presence in the region, our strong network of media properties will bring Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean residents comprehensive news coverage and will also inform the rest of Québec about everything that is happening in the region," said Pierre Karl Péladeau.
