Leaders in Change and Innovation to Keynote TopCoder Open Innovation Summit

Appirio Expands 13th Annual Global Programming and Design Tournament With New Cloud Development Competition

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 15, 2013) - Appirio, a global cloud services provider, today announced the lineup of keynote speakers at the TopCoder Innovation Summit. Additionally, the company has enhanced the 2013 TopCoder Open global programming and design tournament with the introduction of a new cloud development competition, an increase in prize awards and a live webcast of the competition finals.

The TopCoder Innovation Summit features stories of innovation from industry pioneers that have used technology to redefine their fields. Speakers at the 2013 TopCoder Innovation Summit include:

  • Dr. Andrew McAfee, principal research scientist at MIT's Center for Digital Business and author of 'Race Against the Machines'
  • Dr. Albert Lin, research scientist and emerging explorer of the National Geographic Society
  • Jack Andraka,16 year-old health entrepreneur and innovator, winner of the 2012 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
  • Angela Maiers, education reform agent and author of numerous publications about the intersection of technology, employees and education
  • Jason HeadSetsDotCom, social content marketing innovator, founder of "I Wear Your Shirt"
  • Rafaei Grossmann, MD, first doctor to wear and broadcast through Google Glass while performing surgery

TopCoder Open 2013 is the thirteenth annual gathering of TopCoder community members coming together to collaborate, network, and compete in a tournament-style programming and design program. It is the largest programming tournament in the world with the top one hundred qualifiers from the nearly 600,000 member community competing for more than $300,000 in cash and prizes. Featured tracks include algorithms, software development, marathon data analysis, and design. The event will take place at the Capital Hilton in Washington D.C. from November 10-14. The competition finals will be broadcast live online at http://topcoder.com/tco13.

2013 TopCoder Open Highlights

On the heels of Appirio's acquisition of TopCoder, Appirio has invested an additional $200,000 in prize money, incentives and related TopCoder community initiatives. Sponsors of the event include: Facebook, Google, Yelp, MemSQL, Pocket Gems and Two Sigma.

This year, the TopCoder Open will also include members from the CloudSpokes community and the first Cloud API Mashathon. The Cloud API Mashathon will feature both a live and virtual competition requiring developers to take multiple, randomly selected, APIs and create an innovative application in fewer than 72 hours.

In addition to the TopCoder Innovation Summit and tournament challenge, the TopCoder Open will feature more than 80 poster designs that were part of a featured design competition to capture the interest of young women to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) topics. A live audience of 100 local students and a guest panel of pioneering women in technology and education will judge the poster designs.
