PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 14, 2011) - Cooley LLP announced today that Matthew Bartus, a corporate attorney focused on the emerging companies market, has joined the firm as a partner in its Palo Alto office.
Bartus' practice focuses on representing emerging growth companies throughout their lifecycles, from start-up to acquisition or IPO. He also works with management of later-stage private companies and public companies on a broad range of matters, including securities offerings, debt financing, corporate governance matters, equity incentive plans, mergers and acquisitions and other strategic transactions. In addition, Bartus has been involved in merger and acquisition transactions with an aggregate value of more than $30 billion, and has represented investment banks acting as financial advisors and delivering fairness opinions in M&A transactions. Bartus serves as a legal mentor to companies in the StartX program, formerly SSE Labs, a startup incubator affiliated with Stanford University.

He was awarded his JD cum laude from New York University in 1998 and earned his BA from Syracuse University in 1992. He is admitted to practice law in California and New York.
