Leading Experts Tony Lopez and Ned Barnes Join Berkeley Research Group's DC Office


EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 21, 2011) - G. Anthony "Tony" Lopez and Ned Barnes have joined Berkeley Research Group as directors in the firm's Washington, DC office.

Mr. Lopez served as lead advisory partner for General Motors' bankruptcy emergence and as lead engagement partner for Alcoa's IFRS assessment. In addition, he led several long-term restatements and provided forensic witness services and led or consulted on over 40 stock-option backdating investigations. He has spent more than 23 years developing, interpreting, and applying complex accounting, auditing, and SEC standards and regulations. He has held technical roles at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. As a former Deputy Chief Auditor of the PCAOB, he provided technical direction in the development of the Board's Standards and in assisting in managing the activities of the Office of the Chief Auditor. Also, as a Deputy Director of the Office of Research and Analysis, he led PCAOB staff efforts to monitor and provide commentary to the FASB/IASB staff on Exposure Drafts. A licensed CPA, he also led national technical practices at global consulting firms and served five years in a Big 4 national office consulting on revenue recognition, business combinations, IPOs, emerging issues, and restatements.

Mr. Barnes regularly serves as an expert on economic damages in the context of litigation, arbitration, and other commercial dispute settings. His areas of specialization include matters involving intellectual property damages, commercial damages, international arbitration disputes, and valuation. His professional career spans over 20 years, during which time he has worked in public accounting and with various consulting firms. In addition to being a licensed CPA, Mr. Barnes is a Certified Fraud Examiner. He has authored expert reports, provided trial and deposition testimony, and been qualified as an expert witness in a number of litigation and arbitration matters involving the determination of economic damages.
