Leading Real Estate and Mortgage Business Coach Bubba Mills Defines the "Unicorn Culture"

O'FALLON, IL--(Marketwired - April 12, 2016) - Bubba Mills, CEO of Corcoran Consulting and Coaching, outlines how to build a "Unicorn Culture" for a mortgage or real estate business.

Mills is one of the industry's leading consultants and coaches whose clients include 71 of the Top 250 real estate professionals in the country, with a total of 94 awards, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and REAL Trends 2015 report based on Team Volume and Team Units.

"The culture of your business is like a 'Unicorn' -- you can't see it, but everyone on your team has an idea of what it should look like," says Mills.

Here are six ways Mills says can help build and retain a "Unicorn" culture in your real estate or mortgage business:

  1. Start with your values -- Your culture is dependent on the kind of people you surround yourself with. Choose to work with those who are hungry for success and believe in living the values on which you've based your company.
  2. Define your culture -- Once you have the right team in place, secure their investment in the office culture by having them help you define it. Then, make sure everyone on your team can explain it when asked.
  3. Have a servant's heart -- Great employees and team members want to help others and go above and beyond. These are the folks you want to add to your team.
  4. Don't hire superstars -- These folks don't always make the best hires for they can create discontent with your other team members which can destroy your culture. Regardless of how impressive their resume is, hire people that care about people. The value of people committed to your culture is much greater than the value of any number of super stars.
  5. Hire well -- In his book, "Good to Great" business Guru Jim Collins says for a company to be great, it must get the right people on the bus and in the right seat. You can teach anyone how to sell or fill a position, but if they don't fit the culture, don't waste your time. Gauge what you are investing against what you will get in return.
  6. Treat people right -- Show people that you value them, and they will want to stay forever. Remember, turnover is the biggest expense of any business.
