Leading Retail Consultant Bill Bishop and Industry Veteran Pat Kiernan Join Altierre's Board of Advisors
SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2008) - Altierre Corp., a provider of wireless dynamic
pricing solutions for retailers, announced today that well known
supermarket and retail industry consultant Willard (Bill) Bishop and
grocery industry veteran Patrick L. Kiernan have joined the company's board
of advisors.
"Bill Bishop is one of the most respected names in the retail and grocery
industries," said Altierre Chairman and CEO Sunit Saxena. "Pat Kiernan's
insights into consumer future forces and supply chain efficiencies are well
documented. Their knowledgebase and expertise will be enormously
beneficial for Altierre as we begin to roll out our solutions with leading
grocery retailers."
The founder and chairman of Willard Bishop LLC, Bishop has been involved
in thought-leading research and consulting in the supermarket and retail
industries for more than 30 years and has led major studies on topics
ranging from new "wide-angle" approaches to pricing strategy, to the
application of activity-based costing to improve operational performance.
Participating in both national and international industry forums, Bishop is
widely recognized as one of the industry's preeminent advisors and was
featured by American Demographics magazine as one of the ten industry
thought and research leaders who are "driving the future of consumer
intelligence."
"Having conducted some of the industry's most insightful research studies,
Bill has a deep understanding of consumer behavior and other key business
drivers that are of critical importance to our customers," Saxena added.
Altierre's ultra-low power, low-cost wireless platform is designed to power
the "store of the future" with wireless solutions that address
merchandising, productivity and consumer shopping experience opportunities.
Altierre offers the first ever completely electronic price label solution,
entirely eliminating the need for paper overlays and delivering rapid ROI.
Altierre's wireless solution features low-cost, long-range RFID technology
to efficiently deliver real-time, chain-wide dynamic pricing, improve price
accuracy, sharply reduce costs and paper waste, and enable targeted
communications with customers and employees.
"A lot of time and effort is devoted to increasing the effectiveness of
pricing strategies but the full value is never realized because of the
inflexibility of manual price changes. Altierre's dynamic pricing solution
is a big step forward in unlocking massive value for the industry," said
Bishop. "I truly believe that Altierre's technology is a game-changing
development in retail, particularly for grocery retailers who stand to
realize immediate bottom line improvement from significant cost savings. I
am excited to be associated with Altierre as they bring this revolutionary
system to market."
Prior to entering consulting in 1976, Bishop served for several years as
vice president of research for the Super Market Institute (now FMI) and he
continues to serve as a consultant to that organization. He also taught
marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
Bishop holds a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University.
Kiernan is a managing partner of Day/Kiernan and Associates, a consulting
group focusing on growth strategies and emerging issues with an emphasis on
consumer future forces, E-commerce, and trade policy development. He is a
contributing editor for Grocery Headquarters Magazine, serves on the
Advisory Council of Saint Joseph's University Center for Food Marketing,
and is a research affiliate with the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto,
California. He also serves on various boards including DemandTec, Encore
Associates, Prescient Applied Intelligence and the General Merchandise
Distributor's Council.
"I firmly believe that Altierre's ultra-low power wireless platform
provides a unified infrastructure solution that will finally bring retail
fully into the digital age," said Kiernan. "Unifying applications under
one wireless platform reduces infrastructure cost and implementation
problems, and will enable retailers to more rapidly develop cost effective
applications that will deliver additional productivity improvements to the
bottom line. I am excited to be part of this team."
Kiernan's vast experience in the retail grocery, warehousing and consumer
packaged goods industries includes ten years as senior vice-president at
the Grocery Manufacturers Association leading the Industry Affairs
function, where he was instrumental in managing the food industry's
world-wide development of ECR (Efficient Consumer Response), and seven
years as corporate division manager of industrial engineering for Safeway
Stores, Inc. He holds an MS degree from St. Joseph's University and a BA
in marketing from the University of Washington.
