League Founding Partner to Speak About How Businesses Must "Do the Right Thing" and Demonstrate Values-Based Leadership in Today's Uncertain World

Emanuel Arruda to Speak October 18 as part of Vancouver Board of Trade Panel Discussion, Following an Address by Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Dr. James Orbinski

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2011) - Emanuel Arruda, Founding Partner and Co-Chair, League Financial Group of Companies will be sharing his vision for values-based leadership in business as part of a panel discussion at a Vancouver Board of Trade forum to be held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver the morning of October 18.

The forum, entitled "Leadership for a New Economy and an Uncertain World", will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a keynote address by Dr. James Orbinski, award-winning author, humanitarian, and 1999 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, on behalf of Doctors Without Borders. Also speaking will be Tor Eneroth, Culture Advisor to Volvo and Network Director for Barrett Values Centre.

Mr. Arruda will be speaking as part of a panel addressing values-based leadership. He will discuss how League stands apart as an organization that lives and breathes "old-fashioned" values and principles, and how every day League "does the right thing" in all decisions and actions. It's a way of doing business that's embedded in the company's unique Credo that sets out 21 fundamental tenets.

"One of the reasons why we have such turmoil and uncertainty in the global economy is because many business people in the world have not operated by a clear set of positive values," said Mr. Arruda. "Our golden rule for how we conduct business is similar to what parents teach their children: 'Do for others as you would have them do for you.' Business leaders have an obligation to lead by example to help make the world a better place. That applies in many different ways and on many different levels. I am honoured to have the opportunity to participate at such a prestigious event where we will have a chance to have an engaging discussion focused on this important topic."

Joining Mr. Arruda on the panel will be Bob Elton, Special Advisor to the Board, BC Hydro; and Dr. Marilyn Taylor, Director, Institute for Values-Based Leadership, Royal Roads University.

Members of the media are invited to cover the event. Mr. Arruda will be available for interviews at the conclusion of the panel discussion.
