PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - Jun 27, 2011) - Learning.com announces today the launch of its online marketplace to help teachers find, buy and use the best digital teaching resources available. The Learning.com Marketplace gives teachers a single online point to find, organize, assign, and track students' progress with effective digital content that is safe and aligned to their state standards. Teachers can also organize and use the digital resources they already have access to, as well as resources from a growing list of educational publishers, all in the marketplace.
The marketplace provides teachers with free accounts to:
- find resources by keyword and by state or national standard in a quick and easy interface
- engage with a community for educators to learn and share best practices
- access hundreds of thousands of free and fee-based digital resources provided by a growing number of digital publishers
"We know teachers recognize the value of using digital resources with their students. Our research shows that teachers use consumer Web search services to find resources, which must be very frustrating when you care about standards alignment and educational relevance. Our marketplace simplifies how teachers find educationally relevant resources, and makes it easy to assign those resources to students to use in a safe online environment," says William J. Kelly, Learning.com CEO.
In addition to finding and using resources from other teachers who share their lessons, teachers will find a diversity of educational resources from companies like Tech4Learning, Adaptive Curriculum, Learning.com, Conceptua Math, and Hotmath. Free resources are also part of the marketplace, including from NASA Education and the American Museum of Natural History.
The Learning.com Marketplace also supports single sign-on to resources that teachers already have. Teachers simply enter their name and passwords and Learning.com's system automatically logs them in, and navigates to the specific content they want.
Learning.com has already launched marketplaces in two statewide initiatives:
The marketplace represents another step in the company's goal to create powerful and easy-to-use tools and support for teachers to become masters at blending digital and classroom instruction. More advances are on the way that will make it even easier for teachers to collaborate, utilize assessment data to inform instruction, and to integrate educational tools and applications more easily and effectively.
"We have always approached what we do with the goal of supporting the teacher. In the last 10 years there have been huge advances made with Internet-enabled services in music, travel, shopping, movie selection, networking with friends and other areas. It seems only right that teachers should have tools that are equally easy and powerful to enhance their ability to engage students and be even more effective in the classroom," Kelly says.
