Legendary Restaurant, Johnny's Lunch, in Jamestown, NY Celebrates 70th Anniversary Oct. 10; National Expansion Planned

JAMESTOWN, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 10, 2006 -- Johnny's Lunch, founded here in 1936 at Brooklyn Square of Jamestown by Johnny Colera and his wife Minnie, will celebrate its 70th Anniversary Tuesday, October 10, 2006 with 70-cent hot dogs and the famous Johnny's Sauce, fries and rice pudding, and plans to rollout the time-tested concept nationally.

John Calamunci, a grandson of the founder who along with his Brother Tony continues to run the famous restaurant, said he wanted to give something back to the many customers who have helped support Johnny's over the years. The two brothers assumed managerial roles in the operation with their mother Dianne, daughter of the founder, and father Gust Calamunci.

Now located at 966 Fairmount in Jamestown, Johnny's developed a menu featuring its hot dogs and famous sauce and mouth watering hamburgers which are often bought in increments of "three," along with fries, other sandwiches and beverages. Over the years, word spread on the restaurant with local residents and out-of-towners visiting Johnny's for a sampling of their unique menu. The restaurant also has achieved popular acclaim among celebrity clientele such as Country & Western Singing Star Kenny Rogers, and others.

"Johnny's Lunch is a concept that has withstood the test of time," explained George Goulson, executive in charge of development for Johnny's and a successful developer of such concepts as Little Caesar's, A&W Restaurants and Long John Silvers Restaurants. "Third generation descendants of the founder continue to successfully run the operation, and we believe the concept will prove to be popular in other parts of the country."

According to Goulson, requests to franchise the concept began arriving as early as the 1950s, but John and Tony Calamunci believe the time finally has arrived to expand the popular concept. Goulson said he was currently negotiating with several prospective area developers.
