Legion Elects New Senior Elected Officers

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 18, 2014) - A new slate of Senior Elected Officers will take the reins of The Royal Canadian Legion for the next two years. The newly elected officers were chosen during the 45th Legion Dominion Convention in Edmonton. It is the first time in 14 years that the Legion delegates have elected a new senior elected officer in every position.

The List of elected Senior Elected Officers includes:

Dominion President - Tom Eagles from Plaster Rock, NB;
First Vice President - Dave Flannigan from Labrador City, NL;
Vice President - Tom Irvine from Montreal, QC;
Vice President - André Paquette from Chapleau, ON;
Vice President - Ed Pigeau from Thessalon, ON;
Treasurer - Mark Barham from Calgary, AB;
Chairman - Jack Frost from Madoc, ON

The Dominion Convention, held every two years, is the Legion's governing body that sets the policies and programs for the more than 300,000-member organization. As the Senior Elected Officers, they, along with the other members of the Dominion Executive Council, assume the leadership of the Legion as it enters a new era of responsibilities to Canada's Veterans and their families.

Established in 1926, the Legion is the largest Veterans' and community support organization in Canada with more than 300,000 members. Its mission is to serve all Veterans including serving Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members as well as their families, to promote Remembrance and to serve our communities and our country.

The Legion's Service Bureau Network provides assistance and representation to all Veterans regarding their disability claims, benefits and services from Veterans Affairs Canada and the Veterans Review and Appeal Board. In communities across Canada it is the Legion that perpetuates Remembrance through the Poppy Campaign and Remembrance Day ceremonies. With more than 1, 440 branches, the Legion supports programs for seniors, Veterans' housing, outreach and visitation, youth leadership, education, sports, Cadets, Guides and Scouts.
