Legion Helps Calgarians During Flood

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 21, 2013) - Mr. Wayne Donner, President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Alberta Northwestern Territories Command, announced that Legion branches in the local Calgary area will be open to local residents and EMS, fire and police services.

"With the severe flooding and calls for evacuation in the Calgary area, Legion branches are opening their doors to the public to help," said Donner. "The designated branches will be open until such time as the need subsides," added Donner. "We are asking people to contact the individual branches to determine their specific hours of operation which will be based on need," added Donner.

The following five Legion branches are open to anyone and have food, tea, coffee available, as well as being a place to rest and regroup for emergency personnel:

  1. Centennial Calgary Branch, 9202 Horton Road SW, Calgary, AB, 403-255-5772;
  2. North Calgary Branch, 1910 Kensington Road, NW, Calgary, AB, 403-283-5264;
  3. Bowness Branch, 138 Bowness Centre NW, Calgary, AB, 403-247-1234;
  4. Chapelhow Branch, 606 38th Avenue NE, Calgary, AB, 403-276-1775; and
  5. Forest Lawn Branch, 755 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB, 403-272-5585.
