Let Team Challenge Keep Holiday Weight Gain and Stress at Bay

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - October 04, 2013) - A study by National Institute of Health shows that most Americans gain about 2 pounds during the six-week period between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. The extra demands and expectations around the holidays can also be stressful. Both of these factors can take an unwanted toll on one's health.

"People place heavy demands on themselves to create the perfect holiday environment, buy the right gifts, and be available for all sorts of social functions," says Dave McGovern, Team Challenge National Head Coach. "Regular exercise helps keep weight down and definitely manages your stress level. It's easy to say you'll keep in shape during holiday season, but with Team Challenge, you can actually do that and more."

Team Challenge is the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's endurance training and fundraising program. When you join the Team, you will train for 16 weeks with likeminded teammates and expert coaches all the while helping to raise funds for cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis -- two painful, debilitating, and seldom-discussed digestive diseases.

Team Challenge is currently recruiting for the Miami Marathon & Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, February 2, 2014. By joining the Team, you will train throughout the holiday season -- affording yourself the opportunity to indulge and cheat on all your favorite holiday fare in preparation to run 13.1 miles in the heart of the Miami -- on this breathtaking, tropical course with all the amenities one comes to expect from South Florida -- nightlife included!

CCFA local chapters will begin hosting a series of informational meetings starting now to help prepare runners and walkers to cross the finish line in Miami on February 2, 2014. For those interested in registering with the Team, you can visit www.ccteamchallenge.org.
