Let's Give Canada Back to Working Families

"Elect a Prime Minister you can count on to stand up for you"

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 13, 2008) - New Democrat Leader Jack Layton brought his campaign to become Prime Minister for everyday people back to the GTA today, with a series of enthusiastic rallies at campaign headquarters from Oshawa to Etobicoke.

Layton blasted Prime Minister Stephen Harper for his do-nothing attitude toward investing in Canadian cities, and said Harper was "wrong on the economy, wrong on health care, and wrong on the environment."

At every stop, Layton repeated his commitment to "protect jobs, fight pollution with a plan that works, invest in transit, and tackle the nation-wide shortage of family doctors."

The New Democrat leader also slammed Stephane Dion for repeatedly supporting Mr. Harper's agenda in Parliament: "In 43 votes in the House of Commmons, Mr. Dion stood aside and let Mr. Harper do whatever he wanted. That's not leadership."

Layton said "everyday families need to know they have someone in Ottawa fighting for them."

Today's whistle stop tour will visit the campaign headquarters of Mike Shields, candidate in Oshawa; Ali Naqvi, candidate in Etobicoke North; Mike Sullivan, candidate in York South-Weston; Peter Ferreira, candidate in Davenport; Marilyn Churley, candidate in Beaches-East York.

"This time, this election, elect me as Prime Minister, and you'll have a leader you can count on to stand up for you and your family," said Layton.
