Let's Talk Small Business on Midtown Business RadioX Spotlights Tier II Supplier Diversity

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - August 28, 2015) - On August 18, 2015, Let's Talk Small Business welcomed to the studio Ralph Moore with Ralph G. Moore & Associates and Karmetria Burton with Delta Air Lines. Host Stacey Key spoke with these individuals about the economic impact of Supplier Diversity and why Tier II is important for Suppliers.

Ralph Moore, CPA, is president of Ralph G. Moore & Associates (RGMA) and is recognized as one of the world’s foremost thought-leaders in the area of supplier diversity and minority business development. Moore has been the lead trainer for the National Minority Supplier Development Council for over 20 years. During that period, he has conducted over 100 seminars for the National office as well as 22 of the Regional Councils which has resulted in RGMA having trained more supplier diversity professionals than any other firm worldwide.

First and foremost, Moore is a business person, and he approaches the whole issues of Supplier Diversity from this angle. "I think my legacy will be is that I was one of the first to start talking about this in business terms versus social, right-thing-to-do, terms."

By definition, Supplier Diversity is a proactive business program which encourages the use of minority-owned, women owned, veteran owned, LGBT-owned, service disabled veteran owned, historically underutilized business, and SBA-defined small business vendors as suppliers. Tier II refers to Supplier Diversity at the Subcontractor level.

Karmetria Burton is General Manager of Supplier Diversity for Delta Air Lines. In this position she is responsible for developing a Supplier Diversity program while enhancing the processes to assist the company to achieve its vision of being an industry leader of making minority and women-owned business (MWBEs) a natural and integral part of the way the company does business.

"One of the things Delta quickly implemented was Supplier Diversity Champions," explained Burton. "These individuals were in meetings at every level of the organization, and they kept the importance of Supplier Diversity top-of-mind."
