Lexington County School District One Achieves Comprehensive, Affordable Network Security for Students With Impulse Point

Impulse Point SafeConnect™ Provides Lexington One With Simple Deployment of Network Security Across 31 Locations and Protection of 17,000 Student Computers Against a Wide-Range of Antivirus, Malware, and File Sharing Threats

TAMPA, FL--(Marketwire - March 28, 2011) - Impulse Point, provider of the industry's most scalable and easiest to deploy and maintain Network Access Control (NAC) solutions, today announced that Lexington County School District One (Lexington One), in Lexington County South Carolina, selected Impulse Point's SafeConnect. Lexington One recently began a new "one-to-one" technology initiative that will place a new laptop in the hands of all grade 9-12 high school students in the district. SafeConnect ensures a secure network for all students, faculty, guests, labs and devices and therefore the success of this program.

Lexington One serves more than 22,000 K‐12 students and 3,000 staff and faculty in 31 locations, and remains one of the fastest‐growing school districts in South Carolina. The personal computing initiative brought increased challenges to an IT department already managing close to 10,000 computers district-wide. This new initiative meant that Lexington One's IT staff would need to nearly double its support and enforce security measures for an additional 7,000 computers in the hands of students.

Currently deployed across all 31 locations, Lexington One chose SafeConnect NAC because it easily provides the flexibility to block or provide access to individual, non‐district users at the district's discretion and based on security policies. SafeConnect also allows the district to prescribe and ensure compliance with basic security practices regarding antivirus, anti‐spyware, and other malware in real time. Prior to SafeConnect, the IT staff at Lexington One was often bogged down chasing anti-virus problems, sometimes taking up to two or three days of one staff member's time per issue. Now the department is able to spend more time on strategic tasks because SafeConnect automatically keeps the network up-to-date on all patches and anti-virus upgrades.

"SafeConnect is an amazing solution for K-12 school districts and the challenges we face today," said Jeff Salters, chief operations officer, Lexington One. "It doesn't require much training or an expensive consultant to help set it up. The ease of implementation and peace of mind with a truly secure network are incredible. This is especially advantageous to educational institutions that need high-scalability security and diverse device network features, despite thinly stretched IT teams and budget concerns. It is a perfect solution for Lexington One."
