LexisNexis Provides Free Legal Resource for Canadians

Launch of lawyers.com Provides Detailed Information on Canadian Lawyers and Law Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor, Tech/Telecomm Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 14, 2005) - The web site www.lawyers.com, rated the number-one online lawyer directory by Nielsen//NetRatings and "Best of the Web" by Forbes.com, was launched today in Canada with comprehensive Canadian content by LexisNexis Canada Inc.

Lawyers.com is the first service for the Canadian public from LexisNexis Canada, which provides a popular database of content from news media and legal documents that is relied on by lawyers, journalists, and academics.

Lawyers.com is a free resource for consumers to find the legal help they need, with the experience they need, where and when they need it. By providing consumers with a detailed, easily searchable directory of lawyers that includes their areas of specialty, how long they have been practising, and the size of their firm, lawyers.com enables Canadians to make informed personal legal choices and identify high-quality legal representation.

"Canada is one of the most Internet-connected countries in the world, which makes it a perfect market for lawyers.com," said Alan Dingle, vice president, corporate development, at LexisNexis Canada. "Most Canadians don't have a lawyer, but we all need one at various times in our personal or business lives, such as when drawing up a will, selling a house, filing for divorce or for personal bankruptcy, emigrating, signing an employment contract, or in any number of other situations."

Besides providing a national database of accurate profiles of Canadian lawyers, their expertise, and helpful tips on how to select a lawyer, lawyers.com provides detailed information that helps users better understand the law. This includes an overview of the Canadian legal system, consumer-friendly explanations of major areas of law, articles on current legal topics, a glossary of 10,000 legal terms, and more.

The site includes a tremendous wealth of information on most legal matters that Canadians might face in their personal or business lives. These include: bankruptcy; consumer issues such as unsafe products; criminal issues such as impaired driving; employment issues such as workplace safety hazards and wrongful dismissal; family matters such as divorce, support, and child custody; immigration; insurance issues; personal injury, including auto accidents, head and spinal injuries, elder abuse, and wrongful death; product liability, including drugs and medical devices; real estate issues, including buying/selling and landlord/tenant matters; tax issues; trusts and estates; and wills, among other issues.

"We know that Canadians, more than consumers from most other countries, use the web to find information that they need for their everyday lives," said Dingle. "Few things are as important as the legal matters that we all have to deal with, and lawyers.com provides an invaluable and uniquely Canadian tool when we need it."
