LG Innotek Adopts Fresco's Latest Silicon Tuner

FM5150 Selected for LGIT's Global Hybrid TV Tuner Products

TORONTO--(Marketwire - Apr 19, 2012) - Fresco Microchip Inc., a developer of leading-edge RF, mixed-signal, and digital signal processing integrated circuits (ICs), today announced that LG Innotek (LGIT), a global leader in the design and manufacture of TV tuner modules, has selected the FM5150 hybrid tuner IC for its latest silicon-tuner based modules. The FM5150 is Fresco's silicon tuner for global hybrid terrestrial and cable television.

The FM5150 is the latest addition to Fresco's silicon tuner product family. Featuring Fresco's Simply RF™ silicon tuner architecture, the chip eliminates expensive redundant circuits and functions in existing silicon tuners, which are already integrated in the most popular TV system-on-chips (SoCs). The FM5150 seamlessly interfaces to these SoCs to deliver the lowest system solution cost and performance required by worldwide televisions. The chip features fully integrated tracking filters and low noise amplifier and does not require external input amplifiers, pin diodes, or baluns, thereby minimizing the footprint required for the tuner function.

"As a long-term, strategic partner, Fresco continues to introduce market-leading products that are well-aligned with LG Innotek's product roadmap to deliver superior performance at a lower system cost," said Gil-sang Park, vice president, LG Innotek. "Across the industry, TV designs are integrating key functions in the SOC, enabling LGIT to optimize our products for our tier-one TV customers by using Fresco's silicon tuners."

According to industry estimates, LGIT is the number one tuner supplier worldwide, shipping more than 80 million tuners each year into millions of televisions in North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, China, India, and other parts of Asia. In order to meet the demands of its diverse TV customer base, LGIT selects suppliers with proven field track records who can offer lower-cost solutions and key performance differentiators. To meet the market requirements for increasingly ultra-thin flat panel TVs, LGIT's latest tuner modules feature an ultra-low profile and small footprint.

"As the largest tuner module supplier globally, LG Innotek is at the forefront of tuner innovation by achieving new levels of optimized performance and cost," said Lance Greggain, CEO, president and co-founder of Fresco Microchip. "LGIT's selection of the FM5150 demonstrates our ability to continue to deliver value through innovation by introducing breakthrough products that continue to change the industry paradigm."
