Liberty Donates to The Brick Sport Central

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 20, 2013) - Liberty is excited to announce they have donated over $16,000 to The Brick Sport Central to assist them in the gathering, recycling and redistribution of sports equipment to children who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to participate.

Liberty's donation to Sport Central is an extension of its mission to "create opportunities for its customers, employees, partners and the communities they live in." The owners and employees of Liberty are involved in numerous community activities, including coaching youth sports, mentoring youth groups and volunteering at numerous local organizations. Liberty believes that success should be measured by what you give to others.

"Andy, Bill, and all the other volunteers at Sport Central have been doing amazing work in our community for so many years," said Russell Keddie, Managing Partner at Liberty. "We hope this will help with their cause to help kids better their lives through participation in sports."

"Liberty's donation will help us assist approximately 7,000 children in 2013 alone," said Bill Whitefield, General Manager of Operations at Sport Central. "It's great to see community minded companies like Liberty getting involved and helping local kids. 90% of the equipment we give out to kids is donated. The remainder is purchased new and it's those new purchases where a donation of this size makes a big impact."

Liberty was also privileged to install Sport Central's security system. "Over the years, we've had issues [with vandalism] here," said Jim Harvey, who runs the bicycle sector of Sport Central. "Thank you guys, this in itself is actually a huge volunteer attraction and retention aid because they feel more secure. If someone is working the front desk by themselves, it really helps having that camera over their shoulder."

The Brick Sport Central is run entirely on volunteer power and has been helping children for over 20 years, providing over 100,000 children with sports equipment. Sport Central distributes a variety of sports equipment to kids in need, including hockey, skates, bicycles, soccer, softball, rollerblades and other gear. They also play a key role in promoting safety in sport. One way they do so is by ensuring every bicycle leaves with a helmet fitted for the rider.
