On Saturday, the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta hosted The Beat Goes On gala, with a sold-out audience of over 500 Institute supporters ranging from philanthropists to people from corporate Calgary and the medical community. Net proceeds of approximately $750,000 were raised which will be used for recruitment of leading cardiovascular researchers at the University of Calgary and completion of a new hybrid cardiac operating room to be located in the McCaig Tower (on the Foothills Medical Campus). The room is expected to open fall 2014.

"The inaugural The Beat Goes On gala was a tremendous success. The fact it sold out speaks highly to the dedication of our organizing committee and the generosity of spirit of our community partners," says Institute Director Dr. Todd Anderson. "With all proceeds going towards the new hybrid cardiac operating room and to researcher recruitment, the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta will continue to deliver world-class cardiac care, education, and research," he says.

The event was unique on many fronts, delivering excellent entertainment, food and wine, all within a brilliantly prepared Palomino Room at the BMO Centre, featuring a custom heart-shaped central stage. With support from the event's sponsors, guests were entertained with a spectacular concert performance by two-time Juno Award winner Chantal Kreviazuk, and Raine Maida, a four-time winner with Our Lady Peace. Guests were also treated to a fantastic dinner menu created by celebrity chef, Pierre Lamielle.

"We would like to send our sincerest appreciation to our co-chairs, Ken King, President and CEO of the Calgary Flames, and Tony Dilawri, Partner at the Dilawri Group of Companies, who were both also among the event's premier sponsors. In addition, we can never forget the generosity and support of the Alvin and Mona Libin Foundation, naming donors of the Institute some 10 years ago, and ongoing supporters through the direct volunteering of Alvin Libin to this day. Mr. Libin's dedication to the Libin Cardiovascular Institute is unwavering and we are truly grateful for his support," says Dr. Todd Anderson.
